VISA ASSISTANCE DESK · VIETNAM (HANOI, HO CHI MINH CITY, DA NANG, PHU QUOC)

Prepared, checked and filed — on the official portal.

Indian passport holders have been able to use Vietnam's e-visa since 15 August 2023, and the official portal lets a traveller apply personally or 'through the requesting agencies and organizations'. That is the desk's role: you send clear scans of your passport bio-data page and a portrait photo, we key in every field and check it against the passport, the government fee is paid online at submission, and the e-visa comes back as a PDF to print. You must be outside Vietnam when we submit, and nothing goes into the passport until the officer stamps it at the checkpoint you registered.

Westin Travel is an independent travel agency — not affiliated with any embassy, consulate, immigration authority or government. Every decision rests with Vietnam's immigration authority alone, and the government fee is not refunded if an application is refused.

VISA TYPES

Five routes. One is right for almost everyone.

Most Hyderabad travellers go on the single-entry e-visa. The rest depend on whether you leave and come back, how long you stay, and whether Phu Quoc is the whole trip.

E-visa, single entry (up to 90 days)

The standard route for Indian tourists, and the one most Hyderabad files go out on.

  • Valid up to 90 days, with a fixed start date and end date chosen on the form — you cannot stay past the end date even if you enter late
  • Leaving Vietnam ends the visa — a day across the border into Cambodia means a fresh application to come back
  • Accepted at 83 checkpoints (Resolution 389/NQ-CP, 2 December 2025) — but enter at the one printed on the visa
  • Not extendable in-country for tourists — see the overstay section below
E-visa, multiple entry (up to 90 days)

For itineraries that leave Vietnam and return within the same trip.

  • Same 90-day window and the same fixed start and end dates
  • Unlimited entries inside the window — the right choice for a Cambodia or Laos side trip
  • Priced differently from single entry on the portal; the government fee is quoted at the desk
Approval-letter visa on arrival (fallback only)

Vietnam's 'visa on arrival' exists only as a pre-approval letter plus stamping at an international airport. There is no walk-up visa on arrival, and airlines refuse boarding without the letter.

  • The letter market is full of scams; the Indian Embassy in Hanoi steers tourists to the e-visa instead
  • Airports only — not for land or sea arrivals
  • The desk offers it only as a fallback when the e-visa route cannot work for you — confirm at the desk
Embassy sticker visa
  • Issued by the Embassy of Vietnam in New Delhi or the Consulate General in Mumbai
  • For stays beyond 90 days, non-tourist purposes, or passports that cannot use the e-visa
  • Agencies report 10–12 working days at Delhi — confirm at the desk
Phu Quoc Island exemption (no visa, island only)

India is not on any Vietnam visa-exemption list. The single exception is Phu Quoc Island — and the Indian Embassy in Hanoi cautions against relying on it.

  • Direct international arrival into Phu Quoc, a stay of up to 30 days, and departure abroad from Phu Quoc — no mainland travel at all
  • The embassy's advisory of 6 April 2026 recommends taking a normal visa anyway, because any mainland leg — medical or onward — becomes impossible without one
  • The desk recommends the same: an e-visa costs you a few scans and keeps every option open

Leaving and coming back? A single-entry e-visa ends the moment you exit Vietnam — a Siem Reap or Luang Prabang side trip needs the multiple-entry e-visa, set out above and in the checklist below.

HOW IT WORKS

Three stages between you and the stamp.

Send your scans

You send us a JPG scan of your passport bio-data page — laid flat, all four corners visible, no glare, no fingers, machine-readable zone legible — and a 4 × 6 cm passport-style portrait on a plain white or light background, taken within the last 6 months. We check the spelling, the surname and given-name order, the passport number and the date of birth field by field against the passport, because the portal does not allow edits after submission and a single typo means a fresh application and a fresh fee.

We file on the official portal

Westin Travel keys the application into the official portal — evisa.gov.vn or thithucdientu.gov.vn, the only official domains — as the portal permits for agencies filing on a traveller's behalf. You confirm the entry checkpoint, the exit checkpoint, the entry date, the duration and your hotel address before we submit; the government fee is paid online at that point, and you must be outside Vietnam at that moment. A registration code arrives by email. Allow 3–7 working days — weekends and Vietnamese public holidays are not counted, and Tet stops processing altogether.

E-visa by email, printed twice

The e-visa is a PDF carrying your name, passport number, fixed start and end dates and the registered entry checkpoint. Print two copies — one for the airline at check-in, one for immigration — and carry your return or onward ticket and first-night hotel booking, which airlines and immigration may ask to see. Before you fly, we check every field on the PDF against your passport and your flights, so you land at the checkpoint printed on the visa, inside its dates.

DOCUMENT CHECKLIST

Documents you'll need.

A Vietnam e-visa is decided on two images and a form — and refused on them too. Gather these, and our desk checks each one against the portal's own specification before anything is submitted.

Most Vietnam refusals begin with a pixel or a keystroke, not a person: a passport page photographed at an angle with glare across the machine-readable zone, a portrait with glasses or a patterned wall behind, a middle name left off, a surname and given name swapped. The portal gives no appeal and the government fee is not refunded — the only remedy is a corrected application and a fresh fee, so the file has to be right the first time.

That reading is our job before it is theirs. Send the documents in this checklist and we build the file to the portal's specification — JPG format, photo size, scan quality, matching fields — so nothing reaches immigration unchecked.

MANDATORY · ALL APPLICANTS

  • Ordinary Indian passport valid at least 6 months beyond the date of entry, with at least 2 blank pages — strict six-month enforcement has been reported from 1 March 2026, so renew first if you are close; confirm at the desk
  • Passport scan — the full bio-data page, laid flat, all four corners visible, no glare, no fingers, machine-readable zone legible; a JPG, because PDF and PNG uploads are often rejected
  • Portrait photo — 4 × 6 cm passport style, taken within the last 6 months, plain white or light background, full face, neutral expression, no glasses, no hat (religious headwear is allowed if the full face shows); a JPG kept under 1 MB
  • Form details, exactly as printed in the passport — full name in the passport's surname and given-name order, passport number, date of birth, nationality, occupation, religion, and an email address that will receive the registration code
  • Travel details — intended entry checkpoint and exit checkpoint, intended date of entry, duration (up to 90 days), purpose of visit (tourism), the hotel name and address as your temporary address and contact in Vietnam, and any previous visits or visas
  • Supporting documents, not uploaded but carried — a confirmed return or onward ticket and the first-night hotel booking, which airlines and immigration may ask to see; travel insurance is recommended
  • Government fee — paid online at submission, priced differently for single and multiple entry, quoted at the desk and not refunded if the application is refused

Your passport stays with you. Nothing is submitted physically and nothing goes into the passport before travel — the e-visa is a PDF you print, and the stamp goes in at the checkpoint you registered.

EXTRA DOCUMENTS · BY PROFILE

Children and infants
  • Every traveller, including an infant, needs their own e-visa and their own portrait photo
  • Each Indian child holds their own passport, so each child is a separate application with its own scan and fee
  • The child alone in the frame — no hands or props holding them; babies under 6 months need not look at the camera
Families and groups
  • One application per passport, each with its own scan, photo and government fee
  • Keep the entry checkpoint, entry date and hotel address identical across the group so nobody is parted at the border
  • Send every passport and photo together, so the desk files the group in one sitting with matching dates
Side trips to Cambodia or Laos

A single-entry e-visa ends the moment you leave Vietnam. Choose multiple entry.

  • The multiple-entry e-visa allows unlimited entries within the 90-day window
  • Some land exits keep hours and limits — check the official checkpoint list before planning an overland crossing, and confirm at the desk
  • Your return into Vietnam must still fall inside the fixed end date
Phu Quoc only

The island-only exemption is narrow, and the embassy advises against relying on it.

  • Direct international arrival into Phu Quoc, stay up to 30 days, depart abroad from Phu Quoc — no visa needed
  • Any mainland leg — a medical transfer, an onward domestic flight — needs a visa, and cannot be arranged once you are on the island
  • The Indian Embassy in Hanoi's 6 April 2026 advisory recommends a normal visa regardless; the desk recommends the same

TIMELINES

Working days, not calendar days.

Vietnam's immigration authority decides on its own clock, and Tet stops it altogether. Here is how to time the application so the PDF is printed before the flight.

  • Official — 3 working days after the government fee is paid
  • Realistic range — 3 to 7 working days, longer when a field needs manual review; weekends and Vietnamese public holidays do not count
  • Tet (Lunar New Year) — processing halts for 7–9 days; in 2026 it paused from 14 to 22 February. Tet 2027 falls around 6 February, so expect no processing roughly 3–11 February 2027 — provisional, confirm at the desk
  • Other slow periods — the 30 April–1 May holidays and National Day on 2 September
  • When to apply — 2 to 4 weeks ahead; 4 to 6 weeks if travel falls around Tet
  • Express — there is no official express lane; 'urgent' e-visa services are agency products, not a faster government queue — confirm at the desk

VALIDITY VERSUS STAY

  • The e-visa carries a fixed start date and end date chosen on the form — the stay does not start from the day you land
  • Entering late does not move the end date — count the end date, not 90 days from arrival
  • Do not apply with an entry date that has already passed or is earlier than you could possibly arrive — both are refusal grounds
  • Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond the entry date — renew it first if it does not

Rules move. Overstay penalties changed in December 2025 and April 2026, and the checkpoint list was reset in December 2025 — confirm current timings at the desk before you book non-refundable travel.

PORTS OF ENTRY

Land where the visa says you will.

The e-visa prints the entry checkpoint you registered — and immigration expects you there. It is the Vietnam-specific rule that catches travellers who book flights after the visa.

When you apply, the form asks for an intended entry checkpoint and an intended exit checkpoint. The entry checkpoint is printed on the e-visa, and immigration expects you to arrive there. Entering through a different port risks refusal of entry at the border — and a new application from outside Vietnam — rather than a quiet correction. Declare the airport you will actually land at: Hanoi (HAN), Ho Chi Minh City (SGN), Da Nang (DAD) or Phu Quoc (PQC).

Exit is more forgiving: any of the 83 checkpoints may be used to leave. But some land exits keep hours or limits, so check the official list before planning an overland crossing into Cambodia or Laos. If the itinerary changes after the visa is issued, apply again before travel — confirm at the desk whether a port change without a fresh application is possible in your case.

Check my checkpoints on WhatsApp →

BEFORE WE SUBMIT · CONFIRM THREE THINGS

  • Arrival airport — the one on your ticket, not the one you might switch to; the HYD–HAN and HYD–SGN nonstop routes make Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City the usual choices
  • Exit point — airport or land border, checked against the official checkpoint list
  • Entry date and duration — the day your flight lands, with the end date set to cover a missed-connection buffer

Flights first, then the visa. Book — or at least settle — the routing before the file goes in, so the checkpoint on the PDF matches the boarding pass.

OVERSTAY

Count the end date — and leave a buffer day.

No in-country extension for tourists, fines roughly doubled since December 2025, deportation review from the sixteenth day. Overstay is not something to plan around.

  • No extension — tourist e-visas are not extended in-country. To stay longer, exit and apply again from abroad; a holder inside Vietnam may be considered for a new visa only if sponsored by a Vietnamese agency or organisation — confirm at the desk for individual cases
  • Decree 282/2025 — effective 15 December 2025, roughly doubled the overstay fines
  • Decree 59/2026/ND-CP — effective 1 April 2026, set the deportation rules
  • Unable to pay? — inability to pay a fine can mean immediate deportation
  • If a flight is missed — a missed flight is still an overstay; the desk builds a buffer day into the duration on the form for exactly this reason

OVERSTAY · THE TIERS

  • 1–15 days — a fine plus a formal warning
  • 16 days and more — a higher fine and a deportation review
  • 90 days and more — the maximum fine, forced deportation and blacklisting for 1 to 10 years
  • Count the visa end date, not 90 days from arrival — leave on or before it, buffer day included

WHY FILES ARE REFUSED

Eight reasons a Vietnam e-visa comes back refused.

There is no appeal and the fee is not refunded. These are the patterns the desk sees — and screens for — before a file goes out.

  • Name, passport number or date of birth typed differently from the passport — a missing middle name, or surname and given name swapped
  • Photo faults — a background that is not plain, glasses, a crop that is too tight, a selfie, an old photo
  • A blurry, dark, cropped or glare-covered passport-page scan
  • A passport with under 6 months of validity on the entry date
  • An entry date earlier than possible or already passed, or a duration over 90 days
  • A previous overstay or immigration record in Vietnam (agency-reported)
  • The wrong entry checkpoint on the form — a refusal at the border rather than at the decision stage
  • No appeal — a refused application is corrected and resubmitted with a fresh fee, so lost time is the real cost

PLEASE NOTE

  • Westin Travel is an independent travel agency — not an embassy, consulate, immigration authority or government body. We file e-visas on the official portal on your behalf, as the portal permits.
  • Only gov.vn domains are official: evisa.gov.vn and thithucdientu.gov.vn. Dozens of look-alike .com and .org sites charge multiples of the government fee, and the Embassy of Vietnam in New Delhi carries a standing warning about unofficial and fake websites.
  • Visa-on-arrival 'approval letters' sold online are a known fraud channel. There is no walk-up visa on arrival, and airlines refuse boarding without a genuine letter.
  • Type names exactly as printed in the passport — the portal does not allow edits after submission.
  • Carry two printed copies of the e-visa plus hotel and return-ticket proof. Enter at the checkpoint printed on the visa and leave before the end date.
  • Visa approval is at the sole discretion of Vietnam's immigration authority. No agency can guarantee, influence or speed up the decision, and the government fee is not refunded on refusal. A visa is not a guarantee of entry — the officer at the checkpoint makes the final decision.
  • Vietnam's rules change. This page is informational and current to October 2026; confirm at the desk before booking non-refundable travel.

FAQ

Asked across the desk.

The six questions every Vietnam applicant in Hyderabad asks — visa-free entry, timing, filing through the desk, the arrival airport, extensions and refusals.

Is Vietnam visa-free for Indian passport holders?

No. India is not on any Vietnam visa-exemption list, so Indians need an e-visa, an embassy sticker visa or, for airport arrivals only, an approval-letter visa. The only exception is Phu Quoc Island — a direct international arrival, a stay of up to 30 days and departure abroad from the island, with no mainland travel. Even then the Indian Embassy in Hanoi advises taking a normal visa, because any mainland leg, medical or onward, becomes impossible without one.

How early should I apply for a Vietnam e-visa?

At least 2 to 4 weeks before departure, and 4 to 6 weeks if your travel falls around Tet (late January to mid-February) or the 30 April – 1 May holidays. Official processing is 3 working days after the fee is paid, but manual reviews, weekends and Vietnamese public holidays stretch it to a realistic 3 to 7 working days.

Can Westin Travel apply for my Vietnam e-visa?

Yes. The official portal allows applications 'through the requesting agencies and organizations' as well as in person. You send us your passport bio-data page and portrait photo as scans, confirm every field against the passport before we submit, and you must be outside Vietnam at the time of submission. The decision itself rests with Vietnam's immigration authority.

Can I land at Ho Chi Minh City if my e-visa says Hanoi?

Not safely. The e-visa prints the entry checkpoint you registered, and immigration can refuse entry at a different port, leaving you to apply afresh. Tell us the airport you will actually land at, and if your plans change before travel, apply again — confirm at the desk whether a port change without a fresh application is possible in your case.

Can I extend my Vietnam e-visa inside Vietnam?

Tourist e-visas are not extended in-country. Plan your stay within the fixed start and end dates printed on the visa; to stay longer, exit Vietnam and apply again from abroad. A holder inside Vietnam may be considered for a new visa only if sponsored by a Vietnamese agency or organisation — confirm at the desk for individual cases.

What happens if my Vietnam e-visa is refused?

The government fee is not refunded and there is no appeal. We identify the fault — usually the photo, the passport scan or a typo in a name or number — correct it and submit a fresh application with a fresh fee. Allow at least another 3 working days, so build this margin into your travel dates.
