AT A GLANCE

The trip, on one ledger.

The south (Ho Chi Minh City and the Mekong) is dry from December to April. The north (Hanoi and Ha Long) is cool and dry from October to April, chilly in December and January. The centre (Da Nang and Hoi An) is sunniest from February to August and wettest from September to December, so central beaches are best avoided in October and November.

WHAT THE DESK ARRANGES

Flights, stays, transfers and paperwork — one booking.

Vietnam runs 1,600 km from the misty hills of Hanoi to the Mekong Delta, so one holiday can take in a Ha Long Bay cruise, the old town of Hoi An and the energy of Ho Chi Minh City. Two nonstop flights from Hyderabad mean you can land in the north and fly home from the south without backtracking.

The Westin Travel desk arranges the whole trip: nonstop flights, hotels in the right districts, the overnight bay cruise, domestic flights between the regions, transfers, guides and the 90-day e-visa for every traveller. Couples tend to add Hoi An and the Da Nang coast; families add the Ba Na Hills cable car and a cyclo ride through the Old Quarter.

SAMPLE ITINERARY

6–7 nights, day by day.

A starting point, not a fixed route — every departure is reshaped around your dates, pace and travellers before anything is booked.

  1. DAY 1

    Hyderabad to Hanoi

Board the late-night nonstop to Hanoi and land before dawn. Transfer to a hotel in the Old Quarter, rest, then take a cyclo through the 36 streets as the shophouses open. Evening water-puppet show by Hoan Kiem Lake and a first bowl of pho at a pavement stall.

  2. DAY 2

    Hanoi, old and new

Morning at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum complex and the One Pillar Pagoda, then the Temple of Literature, Vietnam's first university. Afternoon in the French Quarter around the Opera House. End at Train Street for egg coffee as the evening service squeezes past the cafés.

  3. DAY 3

    Ha Long Bay overnight cruise

Drive about two and a half hours to the bay and board a traditional junk for the night. Kayak between limestone karsts, climb into Sung Sot cave and swim off the boat before a sunset dinner on deck. Cabins are small but the view at dawn is the point.

  4. DAY 4

Fly to Da Nang, evening in Hoi An

Tai chi on deck, brunch, then return to Hanoi for the 80-minute flight to Da Nang. Drive 40 minutes to Hoi An and walk the lantern-lit old town after dark: the Japanese Covered Bridge, tailors' shops and a lantern boat on the Thu Bon river.

  5. DAY 5

Ba Na Hills and the coast

Ride the cable car up to Ba Na Hills for the Golden Bridge, held aloft by two giant stone hands, and the French village above the clouds. Afternoon on My Khe beach or at the Marble Mountains; dinner back in Hoi An, where cao lau noodles are made with the town's own well water.

  6. DAY 6

Fly to Ho Chi Minh City

Morning flight south, about 80 minutes. Afternoon in District 1: Notre-Dame Cathedral, the Central Post Office, the Reunification Palace and Ben Thanh Market. Evening on the Nguyen Hue walking street with the Bitexco tower lit above it.

  7. DAY 7

    Mekong Delta and departure

Day trip to My Tho and Ben Tre: a boat across the Mekong, sampan rides along coconut canals, a village lunch and candy-making workshops. Return to the city for last shopping before the evening nonstop to Hyderabad.

Getting in. Indian passport holders need Vietnam's 90-day e-visa, single or multiple entry, applied for online on the official government portal two to four weeks before departure, four to six around Tet with a passport valid for six months; our desk files it with your scans checked first, so the entry airport and dates on the visa match your ticket.

FLIGHT FROM HYDERABADVietJet flies Hyderabad to Ho Chi Minh City nonstop in about 4 h 35 min and Vietnam Airlines flies Hyderabad to Hanoi nonstop in about 4 h 20 min; days of operation vary by season
  • Plugs: types A, C and F at 220 V; Indian round-pin plugs often fit the round sockets, but carry an adapter for hotels with flat-pin outlets.
  • Cash: dong notes carry many zeros, so check the colour as well as the number. Cards work in hotels, malls and better restaurants; street stalls and markets are cash only.
  • Etiquette: remove shoes in homes and temples, cover shoulders and knees at pagodas, and bargain politely in markets, where the first price is an opening offer.
  • Vegetarian food: ask for 'chay'. Buddhist vegetarian eateries are common in every city, and Indian restaurants are easy to find in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
  • Transport: Grab ride-hailing is cheap and reliable in the cities; domestic flights link north, centre and south in about 80 minutes, and we reserve them with the international tickets.

FAQ

Asked at the desk, answered here.

Do Indian citizens need a visa for Vietnam?

Yes. Indian passport holders need Vietnam's 90-day e-visa, single or multiple entry, applied for online before travel; there is no embassy visit and no walk-up visa on arrival. The only exemption is Phu Quoc island for direct international arrivals staying up to 30 days, and the Indian Embassy in Hanoi advises taking a visa even then. Our desk files the application with your scans checked first, so the entry airport and dates match your ticket.

When is the best time to visit Vietnam from Hyderabad?

November to April suits the country as a whole, with February to May the sweet spot when the north, centre and south are all pleasant. The Hanoi winter is cool and grey in December and January, the central coast is wettest from September to December, and the south is dry from December to April. Tet, the lunar new year in late January or February, is festive but many businesses close.

How many days do I need for Vietnam?

Six to seven nights covers Hanoi, an overnight on Ha Long Bay, Hoi An with Da Nang and Ho Chi Minh City with a Mekong day, using short domestic flights between regions. Four nights works for one region, usually Hanoi and the bay or Hoi An and the coast. Ten nights lets you add Phu Quoc or the hill town of Sa Pa.

Is this route better for a honeymoon or a family?

Both, with small changes. Couples usually add a second night in Hoi An, a resort on the Da Nang coast or a few days on Phu Quoc, and ask for a private boat on the Thu Bon river. Families do well with the Ha Long cruise, the Ba Na Hills cable car, cyclo rides and the Mekong sampans, with apartment-style rooms in the cities. Tell the desk the ages and pace and we adjust the days.
