SCHENGEN · SWITZERLAND · FROM HYDERABAD

Switzerland visa agent in Hyderabad — one embassy, one checklist, no surprises.

Every Swiss visa file from anywhere in India is decided by the Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi, against a published checklist that VFS enforces to the letter. That makes Switzerland the most predictable of the big Schengen destinations, provided the file is built exactly as asked.

HYD → ZRH DECIDED BY EMBASSY OF SWITZERLAND, NEW DELHI LODGED AT VFS PUNJAGUTTA, HYDERABAD

AT A GLANCE

Lodged in Hyderabad, decided in Delhi, usually within three weeks.

The Swiss consulates in Mumbai and Bengaluru offer no visa services; the embassy in New Delhi decides every Indian file. Hyderabad applicants lodge at the VFS Global centre at Punjagutta Metro Station, the file reaches Delhi on the second or third working day, and the embassy publishes a 10 to 15 working-day decision time for a complete file.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT SWITZERLAND

Only what is on the checklist, in the order it is listed.

Since August 2025 the embassy has enforced a strict checklist rule: VFS accepts only the documents on the current list for your category, submitted in the checklist's order, nothing stapled, with previous passports bound separately. A file with extra or missing items is turned away at the counter, and the appointment is lost.

Switzerland also keeps its own list of approved Indian insurers, requires income-tax acknowledgements rather than full returns, and asks anyone continuing to the United Kingdom, the United States or Canada to obtain that visa first. None of this is difficult; all of it is checked.

THE SWITZERLAND CHECKLIST

What this consulate asks for, beyond the standard Schengen file.

The nine standard documents are on our Schengen visa page. These are the items Switzerland adds or reads more strictly.

The embassy publishes a separate checklist for tourists, visitors staying with family or friends, and business travellers, and the VFS officer at Punjagutta matches your pile against it page by page. The checklist changes, so we download the current one the week you file.

Our desk builds the file in the checklist's order, arranges insurance only from the embassy's approved list, and prepares the host's invitation letter where you are staying with family in Switzerland, which replaces any need for the host's financial documents.

SWITZERLAND ASKS FOR

  • Only the documents on the embassy's checklist for your category, in the listed order, unstapled, with previous passports bound with a rubber band
  • Tourist files: two photos, 35 to 40 mm, white background, under six months old, one pasted on the form and one clipped to the passport's last page; visitor files: one photo
  • An original cover letter with the travel plan, copied into each family member's file
  • An introduction letter from the employer on letterhead, signed and stamped by HR, stating position, length of service, no objection, dates and purpose
  • Travel insurance from an insurer on the Swiss embassy's approved Indian list, covering at least €30,000 for the whole Schengen stay; for a six-month or one-year multiple-entry request, cover for the first trip is enough
  • A flight reservation naming all travellers, intra-Schengen train or car-hire bookings, and hotel confirmations or a package booking
  • Funds in original, A4, with bank stamp and signature: three months of salary slips and salary-account statements, three months of personal statements and ITR-V acknowledgements for the last two assessment years; the self-employed add registration, GST and business statements; students and the unemployed add a parent's statements, ITR-V, a support letter and the parent's passport
  • Families lodge together, with the finances, insurance, flights and hotels attached to the head of the family's file when booked under one name
  • Continuing to the UK, the US or Canada: that visa obtained first and a copy filed
  • Any visa refusal in the last two years: the refusal notice or a written explanation
  • Staying with family or friends: the host's dated, signed invitation letter naming every invitee, the duration, relationship, purpose and the host's address, email and phone, plus a copy of the host's passport or identity card and Swiss residence permit. The checklist states that no financial proof from the host is required

HOW IT WORKS

Three stages between you and the sticker.

The same three stages as any Schengen file, with the current Swiss checklist downloaded the week you lodge.

The checklist, this week's version

We pull the embassy's current checklist for your category, build the file in its order, arrange insurance from the approved list and prepare the employer's introduction letter and, for visitors, the host's invitation.

Appointment at Punjagutta

We book the VFS slot four to eight weeks ahead in the April to August season, and check the pile against the checklist the day before so nothing is turned away at the counter. Fingerprints and a photo are taken unless yours are under 59 months old.

Decision in Delhi, passport back

The file reaches the embassy on the second or third working day. A complete file is normally decided within 10 to 15 working days, and we track it until the passport is back at Punjagutta or delivered by courier.

RULES WORTH KNOWING

What Switzerland does differently.

  • One decision post for all of India means consistent, by-the-book assessment and the most predictable timeline of the big three destinations. The flip side is that a file with a document not on the checklist is turned away at VFS.
  • Insurance from an insurer not on the embassy's list is a frequent counter rejection. Many aggregator policies are not on it; the desk uses the list, not the cheapest quote.
  • Hosted stays: the visitor checklist asks for the host's invitation and permit copy and states that no financial proof from the host is required. A formal sponsorship declaration is requested by the embassy only when the applicant's own funds look insufficient, and even an approved declaration does not guarantee a visa.
  • Multiple entry: Swiss practice follows the EU cascade for Indians, and the checklist expressly allows a request for a six-month or one-year multiple-entry visa with insurance for the first trip only.
  • Volume and refusals: Switzerland received more Indian applications than almost any other Schengen post in 2025, and its non-issuance rate for Indians that year was below the India-wide average. The EU's Entry/Exit System has recorded biometrics at the Swiss border since 10 April 2026.

WHY SWITZERLAND FILES COME BACK REFUSED

  • Funds the embassy does not find credible: three-month statements with unexplained credits
  • An itinerary that is unclear, or hotel bookings that do not match the dates
  • A vague cover letter or an employer letter without dates and a signatory
  • Insufficient evidence of return: no job, family or property shown in India
  • Information that disagrees across documents, or documents the embassy judges not authentic or reliable

Westin Travel is an independent visa assistance desk. The decision rests with the consulate; no agency can guarantee a visa, and the official fee is not refunded on refusal.

FAQ

Asked across the desk.

Which Swiss office decides my application from Hyderabad?

The Embassy of Switzerland in New Delhi decides every Indian file, wherever it is lodged. The Swiss consulates in Mumbai and Bengaluru do not handle visas. You lodge at the VFS centre at Punjagutta Metro Station in Hyderabad, and the file reaches Delhi on the second or third working day.

How long does the Swiss embassy take to decide a visa?

The embassy publishes 10 to 15 working days after submission at VFS for a complete file, which makes Switzerland the most predictable of the big Schengen destinations. Allow three to five weeks in the April to August season, plus the time to get an appointment, and lodge no earlier than six months before travel.

My sister in Zurich is hosting me. Does she need a sponsorship declaration?

Normally no. The visitor checklist asks for her signed, dated invitation letter naming you, your dates, the relationship and her contact details, plus a copy of her passport or identity card and Swiss residence permit, and it states that no financial proof from the host is required. The embassy asks for a formal sponsorship declaration only if your own funds look insufficient.

Can I use any Indian travel insurance for a Swiss visa?

No. The embassy accepts policies only from insurers on its approved Indian list, with at least €30,000 of cover for the whole Schengen stay and a repatriation clause. A policy from an insurer not on the list is a common reason a file is turned away at the VFS counter, so the desk buys from the list.

I am going on to London after Switzerland. Does the order matter?

Yes. The Swiss checklist asks applicants continuing to the United Kingdom, the United States or Canada to obtain that visa first and file a copy with the Schengen application. Plan the UK file before the Swiss appointment; our UK visa desk and Schengen desk work the two timelines together.
